LDC Round 5: Immortals lose to Fenix
Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
The most important game of round 4 took place in Santiago between two undefeated teams where Fenix edged Immortals (3-1) 86-84 on Saturday night. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Immortals. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Worth to mention a great performance of Chilean swingman Juan Valenzuela (191-2000) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and power forward Leonacis Pena (198) who added 17 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Edwin Espinal (198-1993) responded with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Immortals' coach Jermaine Barnes rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Fenix have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record which they share with defeated Immortals. Immortals at the other side still keep top place with one game lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Fenix who have the same record. Immortals will play next round against strong Santiago Basket trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena of Santiago Basket. Fenix will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Sameji. It will be extra interesting game as Sameji is their local rival from Santiago.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Santiago: Santiago Basket (#2) and Sameji (#4). Santiago Basket (2-2) smashed visiting Sameji (0-4) by 20 points 110-90. The winners were led by Canadian guard Michael Tillman (195-1996, college: SUNY Adirondack) who scored that evening 36 points (!!!) and Jalen Knight supported him with 19 points. Even 24 points and 8 rebounds by Randy Ortiz did not help to save the game for Sameji. Santiago Basket maintains second position with 2-2 record behind leader Fenix. Sameji at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. They share the position with Evolve OL. Santiago Basket's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santiago Immortals.
Their close opponent host Evolve OL (0-4) lost to third ranked Santiago Max (3-1) 109-99. Moises Peralta fired 26 points for the winners. Aneury Parra produced 30 points and 6 rebounds for lost side.
