Oliver Garcia Wins 2022 LDC Taco Bell Felipe Lopez MVP Award

by Jo Fabian Jr.

Immortals de Cibao superstar guard Oliver Garcia was named the LDC's Taco Bell Felipe Lopez MVP on Saturday, beating out Dominican National Team member Victor Liz.

The Immortals are the top team in the LDC this season finishing with a 7-0 regular season record.

Garcia has established himself as one of the league's premier isolation scorers and pick-and-roll maestros, destroying defenses with his drives to the basket and step-back threes. His ability to break down defenders off the dribble makes him one of the toughest players to guard, and head coach J.D. Barnes optimized the abilities of Garcia and Gentry to break down opponents, favoring an iso-heavy scheme.

The result was Garcia's first MVP. His competition was stiff, however.

Garcia played all LDC regular season games and averaged 35.8 minutes per contest, and knocking down three game winners this season. His production was as ridiculous as ever, as he averaged 24.8 points (4), 7.1 assists (1) and 4.6 rebounds per game.

"Oliver is the heart of my team", said head coach J.D. Barnes.  He has matured so much this season.  I am very proud of him as a player and a man.  Sky is the limit for him.

The Immortals are now 1-0 in the final four with Garcia scoring a game high 31 points last night.  They will play game two Wednesday.
